Joy of Art! Juried Photography Exhibition

Hospital for Special Care's Joy of Art! Photography Exhibition will feature the works of community photographers. Our Juried Exhibitions mean to celebrate the diversity and beauty of photography and its creators. All photographic techniques are eligible for consideration.

A portion of each sale will support Hospital for Special Care's Joy of Art! program. Purchasers will need to pick up the piece(s) at Hospital for Special Care in New Britain, CT at the end of the exhibit.

About the Juror

Christine Breslin

 Christine Breslin is a documentary and fine art photographer and educator whose primary
interests are women, family issues, and immigration. With decades of teaching at higher
education institutions across Connecticut, Christine revels in sharing the joy of both analog and
digital photography along with photographic storytelling with her students. Recently, she's been
blending her fine art portraiture and a deep interest in the immigrant experience in a personal
project using the wet collodion process.


Her career began as an independent photojournalist at editorial publications and non-profit
organizations. Christine has exhibited still photography and video projects in more than thirty
venues nationally including the New Britain (CT) Museum of American Art where her work is
held in the permanent collection. Her images are in the Polaroid Collection and the recent book,
Jill Enfield's Guide to Photographic Alternative Processes, Christine holds a Master of Fine Arts
in Photography from the University of Hartford and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University
of Connecticut.

Entry Requirements/Selection Criteria:

The purpose of the Joy of Art! exhibitions is to offer enrichment and enjoyment to the patients, visitors and staff through the visual arts. The art imagery and media should be appropriate for family viewing in public spaces with respect for cultural backgrounds and the Connecticut community.

Due to the pandemic, the in-person exhibit is not open for public viewing, but will be enjoyed by patients, their families, and staff. 

Artwork Pick-Up:

PICK-UP: Thursday, June 30 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the Aquatic & Fitness Center. Works not picked up within 30 days will become property of the Joy of Art! program at HFSC. Works may not be removed until the conclusion of the exhibition on Thursday, June 30th, 2022.

Sale of Artwork:

The hospital will deduct a commission of 25% for artwork sold in the exhibition. All proceeds support the Joy of Art! program at HFSC. All inquiries will be directed to the hospital for all sales, the artist will receive payment and a list of items sold at the conclusion of the exhibit. Work does not need to be for sale to be eligible for acceptance.

Liability:

HFSC will not be responsible for any damage or claims whatsoever before, during or after the exhibition. Artist understands that all submitted works may be photographed for publicity purposes. Joy of Art! Exhibitions are an extension of the mission of Center of Special Care, Inc. and its affiliates. Remember that your works are displayed in a hospital. We are not a museum, nor an art gallery. The Joy of Art! Committee reserves the right to accept, or reject, submitted works. Artists further acknowledge they have been advised that they should obtain their own insurance, insuring such works of art as they see fit.

The Joy of Art! program hosts exhibitions throughout the year and supports art groups and activities that helps patients feel engaged with the community. Art is integrated into patient care, providing holistic patient-centered healing. We believe art is an important factor in rebuilding lives. Patients get the opportunity to express their emotions through creativity, stimulate their minds and feel joy during their hospital stay.
